With the advent of the Internet, newspapers was slow in adapting and underestimates the potential of cyberspace.
Now the traditional medium of media, newspaper is seeing a slump in their circulation and plenty of newspapers establishment have closed down, down-sized and those still afloat struggling.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin, whose company is partly blamed of its online aggregators such as Google, offers advice to print publishers.
He was quoted, “It’s very important to Google that all these websites information sources do well, thrive and continue to create information. Without it there would be nothing to search. If you look at the last year alone we paid out something like $US6 billion to other websites through our AdSense program and through DoubleClick and other technologies we’re putting out there. I’m pretty optimistic that the business models will evolve and that we will get even higher quality information as a result. If you take your time to figure it out … you’ll also have a strong, sustainable form of revenue”
As for us publishers, is there any opportunity to capitalise on the situation. Well I don’t really see any other than affiliating.
I do have one site which is doing well selling Kindle Readers that subscribes to online subscriptions. So that could be a potential revenue model for ya.
